Scouts
As the dark nights draw in it’s a great oppourtunity for the Scouts and Explorers to do some activities at Buckmore Park.
Last week, they did a mini incident hike around the park using some great ideas provided in Scouting Magazine.
All Sections hve started woking towards the Group Environment Award.
Over the last few weeks, the Beavers and Cubs have been reusing things – during the first week, they made useful things from one weeks recycling. This included a telephone, a model space ship and a snakes and ladders game. The Beaver and Cub team that were judged to have produced the best work were given some fair trade chocolate.
Also, the Beavers and Cubs put on a fashion show using clothes that were ready to be recycled.
The Scouts and Explorers have started planning for a short video about how making a small change can make the world a better place. Some intial filming has been done but there is a lot work left to be done before the film movie is available to view.
The Scouts built some castles. They were asked to bring in as many large cardboard boxes as they could and then spent hald the evening constructing castles at each end of the Scout hall.Once the constructions were complete, they did the obvious thing, and tried to destroy their oponents castle by throwing missiles (bean bags and balls mainly) them.
The cardboard was all recycled following the battle.
On Sunday, 21st October, some of our Scouts and Explorer Scouts visited London for the day.We took the train to Blackheath and walked through Greenwich park to the National Maritime Museum. After that, we took the Thames Clipper to Tower Pier and walked across Tower Bridge to HMS Belfast.
We had lunch at a restaurant near to HMS Belfast and then walked along the South bank to the London Eye.
This Monday, 24th September, we are going to Buckmore Park again. The confusion last week was caused by the Security Manager having changed his mobile phone number over the summer, so although we had booked to go, as you will all remember, we couldn’t get in!Meet at the usual times in the car park behind the Sports Centre. Bring suitable clothing and a torch as it may get a bit dark. If it’s been raining heavily througout the day, we’ll be at the hall instead. See you there.
This Monday, 17th September, all sections will be at Buckmore Park. Meet at the usual times in the car park behind the Sports Centre. Bring suitable clothing and a torch as it may get a bit dark. If it’s been raining heavily througout the day, we’ll be at the hall instead. See you there.
Unfortunatly, tonights BBQ at Buckmore park has had to be cancelled as the forecast is for Heavy rain throughout the evening.
Have a great summer – Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts start back on Monday 10th September.
On Monday 23rd July, we will be holding our annual Summer BBQ and AGM.
This year, instead of going to Upnor Beach as we have for the past few years, we’re going to Buckmore Park.
We will be starting at 6.30 and will finish around 7.30. All Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers and their families are welcome to come along, share some food and look back on the Scouting year.
If you need assistance with transport, please contact your section leader.
Just a reminder that all sections are meeting at Capstone Park tonight. Everything is at the normal time for each section, and we’re meeting at the lower car park near the fishing Lake (not the drow hill entrance).
This weekend, three Explorer Scouts and two leaders are going to help build the 21st World Jamboree. With over 40,000 people from 155 countries attending, the scale of the Jamboree is massive and our Explorers will play their part in ensuring that the many visitors to the UK have an amazing time.
Whilst the Explorers are away building the Jamboree, the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts will be attending a Church Parade at the Chatham Salvation Army Hall, 10am on Sunday.
